琉球大学では、令和２年１月２１日（火）にパトリシア・フロア駐日欧州連合（EU）特命全権大使をお迎えして、「日・EU関係の新時代へ」と題して講演会を開催しました。また、大使一行は、講演会に先立ち牛窪潔理事・副学長（地域・社会連携担当）、喜納育江学長補佐（ダイバーシティ担当）を訪問し、懇談を行いました。本学では、ドイツにサテライトオフィスを設置し、ヨーロッパとの交流推進にも取り組んでいるので、懇談では、ヨーロッパ諸国の大学との学術連携や学生交流等について意見交換を行いました。
講演会は、大学生、教職員、地域の参加者等約50名が参加し、国際地域創造学部教授で在沖縄ドイツ名誉領事でもあるティル・ウェーバー先生が司会を務めました。本学では、学部共通科目として「EU研究」を提供しており、講演会に参加した学生も熱心に聴き入っていました。
フロア大使は、講演の中で平和を目的としたEUの連携の重要性や単一市場による生活圏のメリット等についてお話がありました。日本とEUとの連携については、経済連携協定と戦略的パートナーシップ協定に基づき、経済連携、環境問題、教育交流等幅広い分野において具体的な取組を進めており、今後のより緊密な連携の重要性について強調されました。
講演に続いて、質疑応答が行われ、参加者からは英国のEU離脱やEU大使としての役割、ジェンダー等多くの質問があり、フロア大使は1つ1つ丁寧に説明してくださいました。講演会終了後は、フロア大使と学生、教員との懇談会が開かれ、活発なディスカッションが行われました。
参加者は、フロア大使による講演会を通してEUによるグローバルな連携やダイバーシティの意義、日本との多様な連携について理解を深めることができ、国境や各国の違いを超えて相互に尊重し、発展することの重要性について改めて考える有意義な機会となりました。
RyuDai Lecture by the Ambassador of the European Union (EU)
On January 21 (Tue.), H. E. EU Ambassador Dr. Patricia Flor visited the University of the Ryukyus and gave a lecture entitled “A New Era for EU-Japan Relations”. Prior to the lecture, Ambassador Flor visited Executive Director/Vice President Ushikubo Kiyoshi (for Regional Collaboration) and Prof. Kina Ikue, Assistant to the President, and exchanged opinions about academic collaboration and student exchanges with universities in Europe.
Approximately 50 people including university students, faculty members, and members of the general public attended the lecture which was anchored by Prof. Till Weber of the Faculty of Global and Regional Studies, who also serves as the Honorary Consul of Germany. In our university, the subject “EU Studies” is offered to students from all faculties and students attending the lecture by Ambassador Flor participated lively.
Ambassador Flor talked about the importance of collaboration under the EU umbrella towards peace, improving peoples´ of livelihood, and the European Single Market, among other aspects. The Ambassador also explained the relationship and collaboration between the EU and Japan in various fields and put great emphasis on the importance of EU-Japan relations.
After the lecture, Ambassador Flor joined a gathering of students and faculty members with a keen interest in European affairs and enjoyed active discussions with participants.
Through the Ambassador´s lecture, audiences deepened their understanding about global collaboration as viewed from Europe, the significance of “diversity” and various fields of Japanese-European cooperation. The lecture offered them a great opportunity to think more deeply about the importance of mutual respect and development regardless of national borders and differences among countries.
