Admission Requirements

Japanese language ability is required.

Undergraduate programs commence in April every year and require 4 years to complete (except for the Department of Medicine, which is a 6-year program). Foreign applicants eligible for admission as undergraduates are:

▸Those who have completed 12 years of formal education outside the Japanese educational system, or those who have completed an equivalent course of study and have been designated as qualified by the Minister of Education; those who have passed the International Baccalaureate, the Abitur (Germany), or the Baccalaureate (French Republic), and are 18 years of age or older by March 31 in the year of admission

▸Those who have taken the Examination for Japanese University Admission for International Students (EJU), which is held in June and November by the Japan Student Services Organization (JASSO), and who have taken all the subject tests required by the university. For the departments/courses requiring subject tests in the humanities, applicants must obtain 200 points or higher on the “Japanese as a Foreign Language” section and 200 points or higher (in total) on the “Japan and the World” and “Mathematics” sections. For the departments/courses requiring subject tests in science, applicants must obtain 200 points or higher on the “Japanese as a Foreign Language” section and 200 points or higher (in total) the “Science” and “Mathematics” sections.

Application forms are available at the Entrance Examination Section. Entrance examinations are held at the various faculties in February, and the subjects that applicants are required to take may vary for each department. For more details, please refer to the guideline for the application of privately-financed international students. For those who completed high school education Japan, screening measures are the same as those for Japanese applicants.
