Responses of the University based on strained situations at Public Health Centers in Okinawa

June 4, 2021

To Students, Faculty and Staff Members:

Risk Management Headquarters
(for COVID-19 Infection Control)
University of the Ryukyus

We would like to express our sincere appreciation to all of you for your understanding and cooperation to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

Due to the rapid increase in infected people in Okinawa Prefecture, the situations at public health centers have become very strained and they announced that they have suspended investigations of those who have come in close contact with young people who are at low risk of getting severe infectious symptoms or people of mild symptoms, and therefore infected people are requested to inform those who might have close contact with them by themselves.  Because of this reason, we, the University, presume that many of our university members will be excluded from subjects of investigations for close contacts by public health centers.

In addition, even if a public health center gets notified of possibility for a close contact, it may take considerable time to respond.

Under such circumstances, we will take the following measures and ask for your understanding and cooperation.

1. If there is a possibility of being a close contact but you are not certain and it is difficult to decide whether or not to go to work or attend a face-to-face lecture, please consult with the Health Administration Center of the University.
(A faculty member in charge of a lecture needs to give necessary consideration to a student if he/she is absent based on the instruction and advice from the Health Administration Center.)

〇 Weekdays:  8:30 ~ 17:15   Health Administration Center  phone: 098-895-8144
〇 Outside the office hours, weekends and national holidays:
  General Affairs Section  email: sosoumu@acs.u-ryukyu.ac.jp
※ It will be handled according to “Notice for contact information in case of poor health condition”.

2. For those who tested positive, please follow the instructions from the public health center and rest at home or at a designated facility to receive medical treatment.  If you are requested to inform people who are a close contact, please cooperate and follow the instructions.

3. Please pay special attention to the countermeasures taken by the Okinawa Prefectural Government regarding the state of emergency based on the Special Measure Law (May 23 ~ June 20) as well as measures taken by the University, and alert for the prevention measures against infection.
