Responses of the University to the basic policy for the countermeasures against COVID-19 taken by the Okinawa Prefectural Government

November 26, 2021

Dear Students, Faculty and Staff Members:

Risk Management Headquarters
(for COVID-19 Infection Control)
University of the Ryukyus

We would like to express our sincere appreciation to all of you for your understanding and cooperation to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
The Okinawa Prefectural Government issued “Basic policy for countermeasures against COVID-19" (hereinafter, referred to as “Basic Policy”) on Nov. 25, and it was also applied on the same day.

Although there is no change on the level for restriction on activities on campus, we would like to ask students, faculty and staff members to continue to follow the prevention measures against infection based on the “Basic Policy,” and engage in studying, teaching and research activities.
The following are the main points of the changes from "Period to balance the prevention of COVID-19 rebound and economic activities (Okinawa Prefecture Policy)."

1. If any signs of the spread of infection is confirmed, an alert will be issued by each municipality or public health center, and necessary measures will be requested as an “alert area.”

2. Regarding of dining (eating and drinking), a restriction on “less than 4 people and within 2 hours” has been lifted and it has now been changed to “refrain from dining with a large number of people for long hours.”
Although no criteria or definitions for a large number of people are defined, it is recommended to visit a restaurant designated as certified one under “Okinawa Prefecture infection control certification system” and follow guidelines by a restaurant in such a number of seats is confined (e.g. Tokyo Metropolitan Government will limit to 8 persons or less at a designated restaurant starting from December 1.)
Please note that, in an “alert area”, it is requested to limit 4 people or less in the same group at the same table, in principle.

3. For events during the year-end and new year period (returning home, year-end/new year party, coming of age celebration), it is recommended to complete vaccination or confirm negative on a PCR test in advance, try not to dine with others often, and continue to take basic measures such as health check and wearing a mask.

The Risk Management Headquarters will continue to provide notification and information as necessary.
