July 9, 2021

To Students, Faculty and Staff Members:

Risk Management Headquarters
(for COVID-19 Infection Control)
University of the Ryukyus

We would like to express our sincere appreciation to all of you for your understanding and cooperation to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

Based on the countermeasures taken by the Okinawa Prefectural Government regarding the state of emergency based on the Special Measures Law issued on May 23, we requested students and faculty/staff members to act appropriately according to the measures, and also take proper measures for lectures, extracurricular activities, working system, and so on.  Yesterday, the Japanese Government decided to re-extend the period of the state of emergency for Okinawa Prefecture until August 22, 2021.

We would like you to ask for your continuous cooperation to take proper measures.  Since the extension period includes the final examination period and the beginning of the summer vacation, we will take the following measures.

〇 Lectures:
Lectures shifted from face-to-face to online lectures on or after May 27 will be basically provided online until August 22.
The measures for final examinations will be announced later.

〇 Extra-curricular activities:
Activities will be suspended until August 22.
※Concerning extra-curricular activities on and after August 23, we will announce it at an appropriate time.

〇 Student activities and working system for staff members:
We ask students and faculty/staff members to confirm again “the countermeasures taken by the Okinawa Prefectural Government regarding the state of emergency based on the Special Measures Law” (updated on July 8).  In particular, please refrain from going to restaurants which are recognized as places with high risk of infection in “Requests to schools, etc.” and requested to close or shorten business hours, acting in a large group and drinking during a barbeque, at friend’s house, and so on.  We are also requesting to refrain from visiting other prefectures or neighboring islands.  If you need to visit your hometown, please consider your plan carefully and take necessary precautions against infection such as taking a PCR test.
For staff members, please follow “Working system at offices related to measures against COVID-19” (updated on June 7).
