Research Students 

Research students are those who conduct research under the direction of a professor in a particular field. The research period is up to one year and no academic degrees shall be awarded.
Research students may commence their research either in the first semester (starting in April) or the second semester (starting in October), except for the Faculty of Medicine.

Foreign applicants eligible for admission as research students are:

1. Undergraduate Program
  • Those who have completed 16 years of formal education (or an equivalent course of study) outside the Japanese educational system
  • Those who completed their university education in Japan, or those who have an equivalent or higher level of academic ability
2. Graduate Program
  • Those who possess Master’s or Doctoral degree and qualifications stipulated by each graduate school

In line with university guidelines, application documents should be submitted to the appropriate faculty by 10th February when applying for entry in the first semester and by 10th August when applying for entry in the second semester. Auditors 

Auditors are those who are admitted for a period of not more than one year and who are authorized to take only the courses for which specific permission has been given by the instructors involved. No degree is granted to auditors, but credits may be given if students pass the relevant examinations. Auditors can begin their studies either in the first semester (starting in April) or the second semester (starting in October).

Foreign applicants eligible for admission as auditors are:

  • Those who have completed 12 years of formal education (or an equivalent course of study) outside the Japanese educational system
  • Those who completed their high school education in Japan or those who have an equivalent or higher level of academic ability

In line with university guidelines, application documents should be submitted to the appropriate faculty by 15th February when applying for entry in the first semester and by 15th August when applying for entry in the second semester.
