Dr. Batsana Pholsena visited Okinawa

Dr. Bassana Pholsena, who was selected for the 2015 University of the Ryukyus International Exchange Support Project: Laos Education Support Project Foundation, came to Japan to participate in the 74th annual meeting of the Japanese Cancer Association in Nagoya from October 8 to 10 (photo 1). After that, she visited Okinawa from October 11 through 15. On October 13, she paid a courtesy call at the office of the University of the Ryukyus Supporter’s Foundation, from which she received support, and she conferred with the executive director (photo 2). Her husband is Dr. Viengvansay Nabandith, who was also invited. They both lived in Okinawa for six years from 2000. This was their first visit to Okinawa after ten years’ separation. Their first son, whom you can see in the picture, was born in the University of the Ryukyus Hospital, which they recounted during their visit

Dr. Pholsena’s studies in the graduate school of medicine included cytodiagnosis, a tumor pathology course (formerly the first pathology course). After earning her degree, she returned home in 2005. Subsequently, as part of a follow-up project from 2007, she started to promote a uterine cytodiagnosis and health-screening program in conjunction with this course. She presented study data from this program at the conference mentioned above. Dr. Pholsena and her husband are already core figures in the medical world in Laos. We hope they will continue to participate in international joint research with the University of Ryukyus and wish them even greater success in the future.
