The University of the Ryukyus and the Okinawa Institute of Science and Technology Graduate University (OIST) Sign a Cooperation Agreement
The University of the Ryukyus and the Okinawa Institute of Science and Technology (OIST) signed an Agreement of Cooperation, whose purpose is to promote and increase the universities’ mutual cooperation, to increase development of science and technology, and to strengthen human resource training.
On March 22, President Teruo Iwamasa of the University of the Ryukyus and President Jonathan Dorfan of OIST signed the Agreement of Cooperation between the two universities at the administration building of the University of the Ryukyus.
OIST was established as a university in November 2011. This agreement of cooperation expands on a previous cooperation agreement between the University of the Ryukyus and OITS’s previous incarnation, the Okinawa Institute of Science and Technology Promotion Corporation. This is an agreement of inclusive cooperation that aims to enhance the educational and research opportunities in Okinawa, cooperation among industry and universities, international exchange, and staff exchange.
Through the conclusion of this agreement, cooperation between the two universities will become deeper and be expected to expand new cooperation systems in various areas, such as a formation project on intellectual clusters and human resource development in science and technology, for example.
