University of the Ryukyus Farm Festival

On Saturday, December 12, 2015, the Ryukyu University Farm Festival was held at the Senbaru field on the University of the Ryukyus campus.

The University of the Ryukyus owns Senbaru field, inside its campus, and Yona field, in the northern part of the Okinawa mainland, as practical education and research venues for students in the Faculty of Agriculture. This event is held biennially in each field on an alternating basis. This was the 13th festival, and it was favored by good weather. There were a lot of visitors, including teachers and local people.

In the festival field, there were: exhibitions of pasture and forage types, a panel of research results, the opportunity to experience harvesting spinach and sugar cane or to operate a power shovel or an agricultural machine, samples of sugarcane juice, and a chance to make shiba-bozu and observe beef cattle up close. It became a precious chance to get to know the field site.

Next year, the event will be held at the Yona field. We are looking forward to your participation.
