
The Graduate School of Tourism Sciences is a single
major (Major in Tourism Sciences) graduate school newly-established
in 2009. Embracing the phenomenon of tourism
from the perspective of tourism sciences, and in accordance
with educational research based on this, the aim of our
graduate school is the pursuit of research and the training of
top quality professionals in the area of tourism who possess
both expertise and leadership skills and who can be at the
forefront of sustainable tourism promotion and tourism
development, not just for Okinawa Prefecture and Japan, but
within an international context.
The phenomenon of tourism, which is the subject
of educational research at our graduate school,
transforms dynamically and embraces multifaceted and
interdisciplinary aspects related to health, culture, ecology,
business, community development and the exchange of
people in the regions, reflecting regional characteristics
(small islandness, vulnerability, subtropicality, etc). In
terms of nurturing top quality professionals possessing
specialized knowledge related to tourism sciences who
can accurately analyze the phenomenon of tourism, at our
graduate school we offer an educational program to develop
human resources that have both the quantitative analytical
means and fundamental specialized knowledge related to
the three academic fields of nature and the environment,
management and economics, which is consistent with the
needs of regional societies which aim at being tourism-centered
prefectures or countries.
